To be honest, until recently Ocean7 wasn’t brand that had watch models that I could mention from the top of my head, except for the LM-7. The Ocean7 LM-7 has probably been the watch model that people will know this brand for, it is a homage to dive watch watches of the 1970s according to the official Ocean7 website. People will immediately recognize the LM-7 being a homage to the famousof course. To be honest, Ocean7 did a pretty good job in creating an alternative for the vintage . This was in the period before OMEGA re-introduced their own homage to this watch a few years ago with their new in-house caliber 8500 movement.
Anyway, Ocean7 is a brand that I’d like to call an ‘internet community’ watch brand. There are more brands like this, like Sinn, Tutima, and a lot of others. It is a brand that is being carried on the hands of watch connoisseurs who are active on forums and blogs and like to attend watch meetings to discuss their favorite watches. The largest watch community website, Watchuseek, has the official Ocean7 forum and owners and prospect buyers are showing their love and enthusiasm for this brand.
One of the things that the official Ocean7 website doesn’t say, but what I want to mention here, is that this proofs again that a nice and “good quality” watch doesn’t need to be that expensive. A lot of people have other priorities for their saving money but do want to own a quality timepiece. In my opinion, Ocean7 jumped into this market with quality mechanical watches for a decent price.

The Geneva Seal turns 125 this year and for its birthday the “image of quality” gets more homework as a gift. What? Well sort of. The Seal of Geneva is a marker on (usually the movement) watches that have met certain origin and quality standards.
For years people complained that the standards were a bit hokey and didn’t make sense. The hardest part to get of Seal of Geneva on your watch was actually producing your watch in the canton of Geneva. There was so much controversy around it that brands like Patek Philippe decided to make their own seal. For after 125 years the Geneva Seal standards have been updated and made more strict.
I should mention that Roger Dubuis is a brand that for a long time has boasted a lot of Geneva Seals on their watches.What are the new Geneva Seal standards? I am actually not totally familiar with all the changes but the new criteria is more strict and seeks to certify wearing quality.

On the wrist however the tonneau-shaped case begins to sell itself. The dial is still round and the case feels natural on the wrist. Cases such as those also tend to compliment one’s wrist visually. References to the BR01 are clear. There are the four large screws on the case as well as the dial which is inspired by the aviator look of the BR01.
Having said that, the dial does feel appropriate for a dive watch and does not feel misplaced.To make it a true diver Bell & Ross gave the BR02 an internal rotating bezel, an automatic helium release valve, as well as 500 meters of water resistance. The watch came in both three-hand and chronograph variant, while additional styles were added over the years. The large polished steel case is chunky feeling – as a good diver should be. The attached rubber strap is custom for the case and integrates nicely with the design.
Best of all it is very comfortable and does not feel like a weight on your wrist. This is good because like the BR01, the BR02 is a large watch. It is almost 50mm wide including the crown and pushers, and about 49mm tall. Thickness is 17mm. With a large domed sapphire crystal it makes for a handsome and aggressive look.
